the story of our Christmas cards

Every year for the front of our Christmas cards I do a sugar version of my family. Renderings of my husband, me and our daughter in cookies, gingerbread, or cupcakes. This year, marshmallows. There is a real picture of my daughter stuck inside, though, for any recipients who actually look forward to seeing real kids.

Acquiring the said real photo of kid caused a bit of angst this year. It involved a now-comical, then-nightmarish three and a half hour evening at a, um, popular Portrait Studio place, during which time our appointment time came and went, my daughter ran around getting filthy and frazzled and hungrier and madder, our session lasted about 3 minutes, and resulted in a few underexposed, misframed shots with my daughter blinking that I was then overcharged for (my coupons were mysteriously "no good"). I ended up using a picture of my daughter in her fairy costume for Halloween. We are currently awaiting our full refund.

UPDATE: December 27th, a mysterious check appeared in the mail for the amount of our session. No note and from a random corporation, so I'm assuming this is for the portrait place? I'll cash it quickly... But I'll take this as a successful end.

Ah well, what's Christmas without a little drama? This picture better captures her true self--the great defender of fairies--anyway. And PS. That costume lights up, too.

Hope everybody has happy, healthy holidays!!

  10. Taking my little one for pictures to a studio requires a shot of Tequila for mommy! for real. She rans all over the place, cries so bad until she almost vomit.right.there.And of course, I have to deal with the photographer telling me that they never seen a child like her, really? I haven't taken her in a year, I rather take the picture myself even if it looks bad. Your little is one adprable fairy.
